Kara Fujita
DIRECTOR OF BRAND STRATEGY, UNDER MY UMBRELLA INC.
Kara’s Mantra:
"Tell me, what it is that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life" - Mary Oliver
Kara grew up in Mānoa Valley, staring up at blue skies framed by lush mountains dreaming of traveling the world. While at UH, she earned a French literature scholarship to study at the Université de Paris à la Sorbonne. From magazine editor in Los Angeles to leading editorial at Publicis San Francisco for clients like Microsoft and L'Oreal, she has always thrived at the intersection of strategy and creativity.
For more than a decade, she worked abroad in Switzerland, leading brand strategy and design for multinational Fortune 500 clients across global markets. Most recently she led global marketing and communications for a late-stage agricultural innovation company, launching a new-to-the-world food with marketing campaigns and event activations at Climate Week NYC, resulting in tier-1 coverage in Associated Press and Forbes, among others. Kara's work spans all forms of media. As a strategic consultant, she has worked across industries with a particular focus on sustainability and purpose-driven brands. She has also served as creative director, writer, and producer for the independent film "Reverence," which screened at international film festivals.
Fluent in French and English, she brings a unique blend of global perspective and local understanding to her work, channeling her love for authentic storytelling to amplify the voices and impact of community-based organizations. When she's not crafting communications strategies or developing content, you'll find her dancing in the kitchen to Bob Marley, exploring nature, or getting caffeinated on fresh air and sunshine. She believes in the power of the breath to center the soul, and that love is a super power—for it always speaks the loudest.
